A Not So Still Life at Habitat

Habitat for Humanity International, long known for its work in building affordable housing in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter, is building media as well. The have an in-house video production group that creates promotional, educational, training videos, and PSAs.

Video is the main medium, but still photographs make up an important part of these programs. "We used to travel 3 hours to Atlanta for motion control, but now we use an inexpensive plug-in for our editing system from StageTools, called MovingPicture" said Florin Miron of Habitat.

Every year, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter joins thousands of volunteers to build simple, decent, and affordable houses the world over. This year, the site is near the city of Durban in South Africa, in a racially diverse community that was razed during apartheid.

"Using MovingPicture for the Durban show saved us both time and money" said Miron. "and because it's integrated into our dpsVelocity editor, we can quickly change the moves to better reflect how they fit with the rest of the show."
